Smell October.
"Smoke of leaves, oak, maple, tobacco,
Steams of soup, coffee, stew,
School bus fumes and Russian tea,
Whiff of cold in northern wind,
Clean composer of a hard winter."

All of the years that Mike and I were traveling all over the world with the Army, I used to dream of being in one place long enough to put down some roots. I love the idea of being in one place, establishing relationships that are long term, and not having to worry about putting everything I own in boxes. When Mike retired, we went and bought and planted some trees for our yard. I wanted to establish a tradition should God allow us to remain here. The tradition is to mark the seasons and growth of the trees in March, when we planted the trees, and October, because I thought that the trees would be showing off their fall colors. No real Fall colors yet, but they have really grown! Today's celebration was to mark that tradition.
"They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8
I love the then and now pics :)
