Braided Rug Update

Sometime last week I blogged that I was going to try to make a braided rug which has been on my wish list for years, but I can never seem to afford.   I took this picture of my initial attempt which represents about about 7 hours of work.  It really wasn't working, because it didn't lay quite flat, and it wasn't going to be heavy enough to be a rug...might have been the start of a really good throw.  So....I pulled it out and started over (tear, sniff, sniff.)

I bought some heavier weight yarn, and crocheted chains before I braided them together.   I decided to go with red,white, and blue after checking my Walmart's yarn availability.   I had wanted to put some green in it, but the colors they had just didn't work together very well.   Here is what the braided chains look like.  

It has been a week, and this is where I currently stand with the rug.   

Rug measures about 2' x 3' at this point...about the size
of a kitchen rug.  

Now I am going to try and make the first band of a different color.  I am going to introduce some navy blue into the rug.   Stay tuned for more updates!
