My first furniture makeover

Before I started this blog, my friend Pam and I went to look around some antique stores.   In one of them, they had some restored furniture with chalk paint.   She bought the expensive paint, but I am a cheapy and came home to google DIY chalk paint.   I discovered a recipe that used plaster of paris, and so I set out to try my very first furniture redo.   My mother gave me an old dresser that had seen better days.  She had tried to spray paint it old handles and all.

I took off the old hardware and had to fill the holes with wood putty and let it dry overnight.  I mixed up my red paint left over from the kitchen accent walls with some plaster of Paris.   I used the old fashion shoe polish for my dark wax and Johnson's Paste wax for my light wax.I replaced the hardware with some oil rubbed bronze handles.     Here is the finished product.  The mirror that sits on top of the dresser belonged to my grandmother.  My mother had painted it, and I repainted it oil rubbed bronze.
