30 years of memories: Year 2 (1985) and 3 (1986)

I student taught at Lincoln Elementary ,
Fort Campbell, KY.   I had to quit my job working for Mr. Smith

Senior Class ROTC Cadets

I had been asking Mike for a puppy...and came home
from work to him walking Cadet, our new "puppy." Mike
had gone to Animal Control and rescued him.  He was kind
of wild and anti-social and you can tell by looking at my face, not
really what I had in mind...but I was trying to adjust because Mike
was so happy about getting me "what I had asked for."
He ran away  within three hours of us getting him.  We looked and looked,
but never found him...but rumor has it that there is a wild dog enjoying life
running the countryside around what is now Bradbury Farms.

Our dog, Stormy.   She hadn't grown into her ears yet. :).  She
was much more the puppy I had in mind.   Later that year, when Mike
and I had to move to the BSU, my parents took her.

lived there had to agree to maintain and clean the building.

Mike's Dad swears him in the U.S. Army as a
brand new "butter bar" 2 Lieutenant.

Mike's brother Chuck was the first NCO to salute him.  Tradition
holds that you give a silver dollar to the first NCO to salute you.
Mike didn't have silver dollars, so he framed dollar bills and gave
one to SFC Chuck Wood, and he also gave one to my Dad,
 SFC Waller Stockdale (Retired).

Our apartment in Lawton, OK.  We lived in the middle apartment. (2nd move)

at Fort Sill, OK.

2LT Mike getting ready for his night jump at Airborne School in Fort
Benning, Georgia.   SFC Chuck who was an instructor at the Mountain
phase of Ranger School (Dahlonega,GA) was able to come down
and jump with him.  Kind of cool!

This pic didn't scan well when Mike was learning the technology,
but pretty much sums up morning sickness when I was first
pregnant with Michael.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I was a 5th grade student at Lincoln Elementary in '84-85. We lived at Ft. Campbell from June '84 to December '86. Did your husband Mike make the Army a career?
