Day Trip to David Crockett State Park Lawrenceburg, TN

"Born on the mountaintop in Tennessee
Greenest State in the land of the free
Raised in the woods, so he knew every tree.
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three.
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier."

It's been a while since Mike and I went on a day trip to explore our great State of Tennessee.  Since it is such a beautiful day, we decided to head down to Lawrenceburg, TN and check out David Crockett State Park (not to be confused with Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park near Limestone, TN....a trip for another day.)

From Clarksville...staying off of the interestate, it takes about 2.5 hours and is a very beautiful drive. Tennessee is showing off its many shades of lush green.

Shoal Creek:  Davy Crockett settled here in 1817 and started a
powder mill, a grist mill and a distillery.  His businesses were destroyed
by a flood in 1821 and he moved to West Tennessee.

One of the prettiest places in the park.

Beautiful canopy

Red Tailed Hawk

I wonder if this was the B'ar that Davy kilt when he was only 3
This bear was in the museum along with all kinds of stuffed
critters and hides.   There were some young boys there who were totally
fascinated and a Park Ranger with a real live snake around her neck.

Beautiful Lake Lindsey on a sunny day.

Top of Crockett Falls

We hiked out to see Crockett Falls and were warned of
Cotton Mouths so we didn't go far down the path once we got the
pictures.

A little rain storm blew in while we were there.

Taking cover from the rain

We took cover under some trees....but after a while the leaves
started spilling water on us too...so we went for it.

It was steamy on the lake on the way back to the car.

Lake Lindsey on a rainy day :).

I got drenched!

Mike was my own personal Davy Crockett blazing
a trail to open the dry car.
It was a fun, beautiful day, and as my Mama always says " a little rain never hurt anybody."  We stopped in Lawrenceburg and bought dry clothes to wear home.   So we even got some new clothes out the deal.
