Kitchen Renovation: Days 2 and 3

One thing I am learning is that days run together when you are renovating.   All I know is that Mike and I have done a lot of work, things always take longer than I think, and Mike and I are super tired and achy! :).

So far Mike has taken out the existing countertop and sink and took off the cabinet doors.  We made trip 2 to Lowes to get wood, paint, and to Walmart to get stain.   He made a template and cut the new wooden countertops.   After dry fitting them, he decided that they needed to be "beefed up", so he made another layer for the bottom and glued them together.  He made trip number 3 to Lowes to pick up some bead board, paint, ceiling repair, dry wall screws, latex gloves.    He currently has them dry fitted again and has routered the edges.   For a final note, he demolished the existing pantry closet.

I have removed all of the hardware from the cabinet doors and deglossed, cleaned, and sanded them.Today I did the same thing to the boxes in the kitchen.  I got a first coat of paint on the inside of the cabinet doors.

In addition to all of that we are having to improvise a kitchen.   I have kitchen stuff in my bedroom, the dining room, the sun porch and the deck. :).   Mike has made me a "sink" on the deck which consist of two plastic bins and a hose strapped to the deck.   I made soup today in my crock pot and it was quite the adventure to find out where I had stowed everything. :).  I used my electric skillet for the first time in about 10 years to brown the meat.   Glad I didn't get rid of that thing...
